Take the Candle Challenge

(oh good grief…)

Simple. Blow out 5 votive candles. See how far you can go.

This is really just a bunch of silliness. This is not what breath meditation practice looks like. This idea happened a few days ago. I had to blow out many candles for both Hannukkah and Christmas. Holy moly. I was surprised by the changes. I could now blow out a candle at a distance, and that was never an intention of the practices.

Anybody can improve their situation, by focusing on their natural breath, with the utmost of attention.

(oh good grief … more?)

Blow out 5 taper candles in a row spaced 6 inches apart at 5 feet. Perfection is not required.

This is really just a bunch of silliness. This is not what breath meditation practice looks like. Hope this reversal of expectations on this video is fun.

“Being aware of the breath forces you into the present moment - the key to all inner transformation. Whenever you are conscious of the breath, you are absolutely present. You may notice that you cannot think and be aware of your breathing. Conscious breathing stops your mind. Far from being in a trance or half asleep, you are fully awake and highly alert. You are not falling below thinking, but rising above it and if you look more closely, you will find that those two things - coming fully into the present and ceasing thinking with out loss of consciousness are actually one and the same: the arising space of consciousness.”
